Summer Road Trip Part One
Courtney and I decided to take a road trip this summer – to visit family, see some of our favorite sites, get away from the front of our computer screens and take a break from editing photos. Luckily, Jeremy got off work and was on break from school in Tallahassee, so he tagged along. First stop was Washington, D.C. where we visited Courtney’s brother Jay and his wife Jo. Had a nice dinner at beautiful National Harbor and spent the next day going through The National Museum of American History. My favorite will always be First Ladies at the Smithsonian (for some reason, Courtney and Jeremy went through some boring war exhibit instead of going with me through that one…) and National Treasures of Popular Culture. The highlight for us was an exhibit we had been planning to see for some time at the Smithsonian American Art Museum – Telling Stories: Norman Rockwell from the Collections of George Lucas and Steven Spielberg. The drawings and paintings were some we had never seen and we loved them. We stayed there for about 2 hours exploring each piece. I got a finger wagged at me from a snobbish security guard for trying to take a photo. The exhibit is there until Jan 2, 2011 and will not be seen anywhere else – so hurry and go see it. Cool sculpture in the sand at National Harbor

how crazy – i actually know the people who cast that awesome sculpture at the harbor… if i am not mistaken it was commissioned by the johnson atelier in nj, and i used to serve the artists drinks when i was a lowly barmaid at the local irish pub… the good old days!
