I loved meeting Megan, a teacher, and her fiancée Hector to talk about their wedding at the Courtyard at Lake Lucerne. Megan and I talked dresses and shoes while Courtney and Hector talked bike racing. A perfect fit. I loved her handmade details, vintage feel and Tom’s wedding shoes. See below for some of Megan’s thoughts about her beautiful wedding and advice for brides-to-be.
Catering : John Michael Events
DJ: Randy Price
Coordinator: Events by Yram
Flowers: Jonathan’s Flowers
Cake: Costco
Wedding Dress: David’s Bridal
Shoes: Tom’s
Bridesmaid dresses: David’s Bridal
Menswear: Men’s Wearhouse
Describe your wedding day style in one sentence: Vintage elegance
Wedding day color scheme: Wisteria, ivory, and gray
Describe your wedding planning process – I started with the venue and that set the slightly vintage feel for the day. The dress came next, which was more formal than I had expected wanting, so that helped set the tone for the remaining details. The rest was mostly about finding the least expensive way to get what I wanted, since we were working with an extremely tight budget.
What advice would you give to future brides for their wedding day? Don’t be afraid to make decisions based on what YOU want. Don’t get talked into doing things because others say you just have to do this or have to have that. It can save you money and make the day a reflection of the two of you.
Anything you would have done differently? The caterer agreed to make a dish not on their menu. Even though the sample they made was very good, on the day-of, that dish was pretty bad. It’s probably best to stick with what your caterer does best.
Most memorable moment during the planning process: Putting on the dress that was the one!
What are you most looking forward to as a married couple? Finally getting settled into our house, and then leaving it to travel – someday.
Which moment are you the most excited to see in photos? Our first-look photos!
Describe some of your favorite wedding details and how you came up with them. The cake! Everyone commented that it by far the best wedding cake they had ever tasted. I was getting quotes of $1000 – $1500 we for something simple. Instead, we went with one of our favorite cakes – a round multi-layered chocolate masterpiece from Costco. We bought four, put three of them on cake stands of varying heights with some flowers on the table (one extra cake, just in case!), and it looked great! We had it served with fresh raspberries. The total cost for the cake and berries was less than $100. I also loved my shoes. I am not a frequent wearer of heels and I had a long staircase to descend, so I wanted a comfortable wedge. I discovered that Tom’s makes a shoe often used for weddings, in an ivory grosgrain. I love all of my regular Tom’s, so they were perfect!

Gordon, a physician, called me from Pittsburg to talk about his proposal to beautiful Kristen, an accountant who lives in Toronto. He was so sweet, so nervous, wanted his proposal to be perfect and wanted us there to capture it. Gordon had quite the set up for his proposal to Kristen – Mickey balloons, rose petals and a beautiful engagement ring – looking over Disney World from Disney’s Contemporary Resort balcony. He even had rented a Ring Cam! It captured the whole proposal from Gordon’s point of view. We had so much fun with them and CAN NOT wait for their summer wedding in Toronto!
I asked Kristen how they met and how they got to Disney for their proposal: Gordon and I met through mutual friends, his cousin (Emily) and my best friend (Azalea) worked together and he arranged an outing with all his cousins and Emily invited Azalea who invited me and the rest was history! Gordon chose Disney World to propose because we are both huge Disney fans and our goal is to visit all the Disney resorts in the world. Disney World is the best one so he chose Orlando for the proposal. I initially thought I was going to a free family vacation paid by my mom’s company with my parents to Orlando so I was REALLY surprised when I walked into the room. From what I heard from Gordon he had been planning this Disney proposal for a very long time, endless consultations with his best friend, my best friend and our parents to pull it off.

For Veterans Day we wanted to feature our summertime photo shoot with Natalie and Taylor. It was their first anniversary and we had so much fun with them running around The Plaza in Kansas City! I asked Natalie how she and Taylor met…
We met in Kansas while I was on vacation seeing my good friend Lindsey. We hit it off right away and started a long distance relationship since I lived in Florida and Taylor was stationed at fort Riley in Kansas. I ended up moving to Kansas and we got engaged and had a beautiful wedding in our home state of Florida. Taylor just recently got back from deployment where he was in Afghanistan for 9 months. We just celebrated our one year wedding anniversary in June and as part of the celebration had beautiful photos taken by the Canovas.

I was lucky enough to meet Kareema at a wedding event. Her charm, adorableness and infectious laugh drew me to her right away. As she told me about her her honey Nahshon and her wedding, really plans to elope, I felt even more lucky that she chose us to photograph it! The day they eloped was a happy one and we had a great time playing through Dickson Azalea Park and Stardust Coffee in Winter Park.
In Kareema’s words: Nahshon and I met at a potluck dinner at a mutual friend’s house, at the spades table. My spades partner and I were looking for our next pair of victims and Shon and his friend accepted our invitation, in the most confident “let’s show these ladies a thing or two” manner. After we annihilated them, Shon asked if we could keep in touch… 3 weeks later we went on our first date and have been inseparable since. 2 and 1/2 months later, Shon asked me to make him “the luckiest man in the world by becoming his wife”
Our decision to “elope” was a result of picking our wedding date coupled with our mutually unconventional nature. We knew from the beginning that we didn’t want a “White-Glove-Service” wedding with all the formalities, and with only 6 months to plan and understanding that most of both families would have to travel from Boston (Groom’s hometown) and New York City (Bride’s hometown), we opted to keep it small and not pressure everyone to attend. Our decision allowed us to set our focus on declaring our love for each other before God.
Every day that we wake up we thank Our Father for His mercy and grace, and for the gift of learning how to walk in His love and light. Through Him we look forward to growing closer as one flesh and pray that our love would always be a testimony to God’s love for the world. Our ultimate goal is to have a huge farm with more livestock and crops than we can count… A city slicker’s dream

You know when you meet those people who are really beautiful, and then you get to know them, and in addition they are some of the nicest people you know? That’s Angela and Evan. She is the dance director at Oviedo High School, he is a fireman for Seminole County. We met with them and talked about their classic summer wedding which was also my birthday! We could see at their engagement shoot that were were perfect together. We liked them so much we asked them to star in our new branding film. Their wedding was beautiful, all in Tiffany blue and red. Some of our favorite parts were taking photos at Evan’s fire station and the late night party at Coronas. Thank you so much Angela and Evan for including us in your lives!
I asked Angela to describe her wedding at the Westin in Lake Mary, her answers are below.
Describe your wedding day style in one sentence: A classic summer wedding
Wedding day color scheme: Tiffany blue and red
Describe your wedding planning process: We began with choosing a date and venue. We selected our wedding party and shopped for dresses and tuxes. We discussed having our rehearsal lunch idea at the beach since most guests would be coming from out of town and might enjoy a day at the beach while they were here. We used a wedding website from mywedding.com to gather and post information for our guests. We hired our wonderful photographers and used engagement photos for our website and save-the-dates (from weddingpaperdivas.com). Once the guest list was set, we created our invitations and filled in the remaining details with a florist, DJ, cake company, etc. we had over a year to plan which made things much easier.
What advice would you give to future brides for their wedding day? Give yourself time to plan and budget
Anything you would have done differently? No
Most memorable moment during the planning process: booking our wedding reception venue. I was so excited after touring the venue because I could really envision it all happening.
What are you most looking forward to as a married couple? Our honeymoon, buying our first home, and having children!
Which moment are you the most excited to see in photos? Our fire engine pictures
What was your wedding inspiration? I was actually inspired to use my color scheme by a Target commercial that I saw one day.
Describe some of your favorite wedding details and how you came up with them. I loved our party bus (a tradition from weddings in my hometown of St. Louis). Our fire station pictures were a tribute to the groom and groomsmen who are firefighters. We are big cigar smokers, so the cigar table with cigars and personalized match boxes were a perfect fit for our wedding gifts.

We were very excited to be a part of Tania and Axel’s wedding. We knew when we met for their engagement session that this couple were meant to be together and that their Casa Feliz wedding would be special. And it was. Family from far away and really great friends were there to celebrate with them and everything was perfect. Working with amazing wedding professionals and such a great couple made our jobs very easy that night! I love to hear what couples say about their wedding after it is all over so don’t miss their ideas and great advice for new couples planning a wedding below. xo
Venue: Casa Feliz Historic Home Museum
Catering: Arthur’s
Wedding Planner: Cyndi Benzel Signature Weddings
DJ/Music/Lighting: Maria Shafer Celebration Expert
Cake: The Sugar Suite
Florals: Lee Forrest Design
Chairs: A Chair Affair
Hair/Make Up: Kitty Kristy Alonzo
Officiant: Mike Adkins, Grace Orlando
Wedding Dress: Brides by Demetrios
Shoes: Benjamin Adams London
Menswear: Hugo Boss
Wedding day color scheme: mostly creams and greens with pops of deep purple
Describe your wedding planning process:
I let the style and architecture of the venue dictate the layout and the decor. We very early knew that we wanted a small wedding, and that we wanted everyone together for the reception, so that told us how many people we could invite. As far as the colors, Axel was going to wear a blue suit, and I found some pictures on Pintrest of weddings with the groom in blue. That’s when I found a bouquet that I loved and Lee made a version of that bouquet, but with his own artistic touch.
Describe your wedding day style in one sentence: the mood was relaxed and fun, even if the decor and the attire was elegant.
Most memorable moment during the planning process: Tania: telling my mother about the details of the wedding that I assumed she knew, but she didn’t and they made her very happy. Oh, and getting the marriage license. Axel: that we very early on agreed on a budget. Axel: the food tasting.
What are you most looking forward to as a married couple? Growing old together and having a partner that you can trust and love by your side.
Which moment are you the most excited to see in photos? Axel: when Tania was walking down the isle, pictures during the ceremony. Tania: Axel’s reaction when he first saw me, my dad’s face when he first saw me, Axel and I dancing and the posed pictures of us and the family.
What was your wedding inspiration? We wanted the wedding to be elegant, but not too fussy. We wanted our guests to feel as if they were coming to a special dinner party. We wanted the decor and the details to be personal and meaningful.
Describe some of your favorite wedding details and how you came up with them. Tania: I loved the garland, which was absolutely Lee Forrest. Axel and Tania: we spent time with the pastor so that the ceremony would be personal. We chose Pastor Mike because we wanted someone who knew us and had seen our journey in faith.
What advice would you give to future brides for their wedding day? Don’t try to do too much, and know your limits. I just wanted to be surrounded by a few very important people prior to the ceremony, and I set those limits with others. Also, a few beautiful details will be more memorable than ten hurried activities, etc.
–be sure that you and your future husband are united in the approach and decisions. Everyone has an opinion, but yours as a couple is most important.
–spend enough time with your photographer and with your wedding planner to get to know them and be sure you like them. Personality is important and Kelly and Courtney were not only excellent, but also calming and so sweet. (Thank you Tania! That means a lot xo)
–hire a planner, even if it’s just for the day. Cyndi was one of the main reasons why I was so relaxed that day.
–be sure to have as many hair and make up trials as you need to be sure that you’re happy with what you’ll look like on the day. This really helped me and Kitty understand what I was looking for, so the day of make up was perfect upon first application.
–be present in the day and take it all in, every second. Just roll with anything that happens– people won’t remember that part of it.
