Lacey and Mike are just one of those couples that you love right away – mostly because of the way the look at each other. You can just tell – they are meant for each other. Icing on the cake is their sweet son Zane. We had such fun at their engagement shoot – lots of laughing even on a cold day.
Their wedding ceremony was at Sandhill Golf Course in DeLand under big beautiful oak trees and a sparkling chandelier. Her father’s speech had us all laughing and crying as Zane talked from his seat. The whole night was wonderful with amazing family and friends.

The day in Lacey’s words:
Describe your wedding day in one sentence – Perfect
Wedding day color scheme – Shabby Chic / Rustic
Describe your wedding planning process – Amazing thanks to Courtney Ford
What advice would you give to future brides for their wedding day? Take a minute to sit back and take it all in and hem your dress shorter than you think it should be!
What are you most looking forward to as a married couple? Growing old together
Which moment are you the most excited to see in photos? Our Son and our First Look
What was your wedding inspiration? My husband and I are simple, laid back people and we wanted the day to feel the same. We wanted it to be more like a party where everyone could be themselves and enjoy a night out.
Describe some of your favorite wedding details and how you came up with them. My favorite details were planning the ceremony site (the barn doors and chandelier) and the sign for my son to carry. I saw them all on Pinterest and thought how romantic they looked and the sign, I mean come on – How cute is that! I also wanted to have songs that meant something to me and my family – Our first dance was a song that Mike and I heard when we first started dating that pretty much summed up how we felt for each other before we told each other – Lady Antebellum – “Can’t Take my Eyes off you”, one of my favorite songs is “At Last” by Etta James and that is the song that I danced to with Mike and Zane because, At Last my life was complete. My Daddy and I danced to “My Little Girl” by Tim McGraw because we say “I love you more” to each other and it just fit. I also wanted to have a dance with just my son Zane and I – I sing “GodSpeed” by the Dixie Chicks to him every night so that is what we danced to.

Lacey and Mike chose the perfect spot to get married under a beautiful oak tree at Sandhill Crane Golf with their sweet baby Zane. Planning by Courtney Ford Event Design. Here are 5 of our favorites. More to come…. xo
I love working with Courtney Hamill of Courtney Ford Event Design. She does such great work and I was thrilled when she called me to photograph Sarah and Rewny’s proposal! Sarah loves old trucks and Courtney set up the perfect romantic atmosphere for Rewny to propose, the bed of an old Dodge truck filled with pillows, roses and champagne. It was a beautiful night with market lights lighting up Artisan Alley in historic downtown DeLand. I love shooting proposal photography – I get to be there from the start xo

Their story in Sara’s words:
Rewny and I are both from DeLand, and actually grew up around the corner from each other. However, Rewny was five years older, so I never knew him growing up, just knew of him. One of my close friends from high school, Haley, got engaged to Rewny’s brother, Nat. At the time, I was living in Jacksonville and was in my first year of law school at Florida Coastal. I went on Haley’s bachelorette cruise, where I met Rewny’s mom, Alice, and sister, Leah. After a few glasses of wine, and few days of getting to know each other, Leah and Alice suggested that Rewny and I should meet. According to Rewny, they came home from the cruise saying that he needed to meet me at the upcoming wedding. I was so nervous but also excited to meet him. After his best man speech, he came up to me introduced himself, and kissed my hand. We got to talking, and we automatically just clicked. I gave him my phone number, and the following week, we had our first date. He recently moved to Jacksonville for his job, so it was perfect. He cooked me pasta carbonara at his house, and we talked, and talked the whole night. When he walked me to my car, we had our first kiss. I remember immediately getting into the car and texting my best friend that I just had “my last first date.” Rewny has truly been my rock and best friend since the day I met him.
In September of 2013 my dad had a brain aneurysm, that left him in a coma with a long road of recovery ahead. Seeing Rewny cry beside my dad’s hospital bed was the moment I knew we would truly be together forever. Not only did he love me, he loved my family, and I wanted him to be my husband. My dad passed away in October of this year, by far the worst time in my life, yet Rewny was there every single step of the way. Before he passed, Rewny was able to ask my dad for his permission to ask me to marry him. My dad told him he would like that very much. Rewny’s birthday was the plan for the day to propose. I think he tried to think of a day that I would least expect. We were supposed to meet my mom at Dally in the Alley for dinner at 5:30. We parked on New York Avenue, and walked down the alley. There was an old red Dodge truck sitting at the end. I have this obsession with old trucks that I always talk about. I was completely clueless it was for me. Rewny said, “Wow that’s a cool truck” and I said, “Oh yeah it is, I wonder whose it is?” We got closer and he stopped in front of the truck. He began telling me how much he loved me, and that he had been lying to me about some things. When he walked me around to the bed of the truck it was decorated with candles and flowers, and I just completely lost it. He said, “I have a question I’ve been dying to ask you…Sarah Beth Zimmerman will you marry me?” At this point I was hysterically crying and said yes. There was banging on the windows from inside Dally, where my mom, sister, and Rewny’s parents were watching. We went in to Dally and had a wonderful dinner to celebrate. It was absolutely perfect, and to make it even more special, my dad was there in so many ways. I was wearing my dad’s ring that night on my wedding finger (the only finger it fit), so I had to take his ring off to put on my engagement ring. Also, Rewny was wearing one my dad’s shirts and the flowers were arranged in my dad’s old watering can. It was such a special night. Rewny is so good to me, and has already been there for me for better or for worse. I know God sent him to me at the perfect time, and I’m so excited to be his wife.
DeLand Proposal Photography
It’s hard to believe how fast time goes – the time a mom of a bride-to-be texts me and asks, “are you available for a wedding on October 30th?!” to conversations with a bride who becomes a friend, talking about dresses and how happy this man makes her, to the actual wedding day. Their wedding was light-hearted and fun, with picnic baskets and blankets on the beach. Courtney and I were very happy to be a part of Beth and Jake’s celebration and to be a part of this time in their lives. Thank you Beth and Jake! Here’s to your new life together. xo

Beth’s thoughts of her wedding:
Describe your wedding day style in one sentence: Simple, Pretty, Vintage Lakeside Picnic
Wedding day color scheme: Petal Pink, White
Describe your wedding planning process: The most stressful, crazy, confusing, but exciting experience of my life. I wouldn’t change it for the world. There were times where I wanted to quit and elope and times where my dreams exceeded my budget, but the most amazing thing about the whole process is, it turned out PERFECTLY!!!
What advice would you give to future brides for their wedding day? Dance A LOT! I thought I would be mingling and talking to guests the whole night, but nothing was better or more special than dancing with my new husband to almost every song.
Anything you would have done differently? No way! Every experience, good or bad, made this night the incredible night that it was. This sounds silly, but it really was like I was in a dream bubble. Nothing could have popped it!
Most memorable moment during the planning process: Picking out our rings, with my husband. Realizing that there is actually a wedding at the end of all this planning! That and finding my dress with my mom. That was really special. I think I saw a tear!
What are you most looking forward to as a married couple? I have heard a lot of people say that “it feels the same” after they get married. I haven’t had one day of “the same” since we said “I do”. Everything is better. He is mine… I am his and everything is different now. Whether it’s going grocery shopping, watching tv or taking a walk on the beach, it is just different. There is a smile on both of us that wasn’t there before. Its awesome.
Which moment are you the most excited to see in photos? Our announcement into the reception and the boat exit. Mostly, our announcement as husband and wife!
What was your wedding inspiration? I always had one word in mind through all of the planning. I wanted my wedding above all else to be Pretty. I wanted a soft, pretty, vintage inspired lakeside wedding. I loved the blankets we put in the sand next to the fire pit. The pink tones, babies breath and wildflowers gave me the feeling of simple but pretty.
Describe some of your favorite wedding details and how you came up with them. My favorite idea was the idea of the plaid blankets in the sand under the market lighting. I am not even sure where I came up with that, but I felt like it was a page out of the 50s. Kind of a bonfire beach theme. The Suitcase with the babies breath was another favorite, on the guestbook table. I was worried at first, because my favorite wedding flower, the babies breath was so simple, and I kept thinking I needed more, but it turned out to be sooo pretty and gave the soft look that I was going for.

I love it when couples from up north get to travel south to their favorite places in Florida – especially when they call me to photograph them. I love to meet couples from other places and still get to be a small part of their new lives together. Lou, a New Jersey police officer, called me to set up an engagement shoot with his beautiful girl Lindsay, a cosmetologist and hair designer, at Disney Boardwalk – one of their favorite places to visit. They were sweet and easy with each other, playing games and up for anything. Lou even let Lindsay handcuff him!
Both Lindsay & Louis are die hard New York Mets fans and love to travel – which is lucky for me. Contact The Canovas Photography if you are interested in Disney Boardwalk Engagement Photography today!
When Matt called me from Texas and told me he wanted to propose to his beautiful girlfriend Brittany, he told me she thought airports were so romantic. When he landed in Orlando he decided he wanted to propose as soon as he got off the plane. And it was so romantic.
Thank you Matt and Brittany for including us in this wonderful celebration! <3
From Brittany: Matt and I have been friends for 12 years. Our love story is very much like the story line of “You’ve Got Mail.” We met in an AOL instant messenger chat room, and quickly became friends. For years, we talked, and kept in touch through school, moves, breakups and more. Then, one day we decided to meet. The rest is pretty much history. Matt’s airport proposal was like something straight out of a movie. I can’t believe he had a photographer there to capture it all! Everything about loving Matt, and being loved by him is like the fairy tale I always knew I deserved. I can honestly say I am marrying my best friend! Matt and I will say our vows in front of God, family and closest friends, during an intimate ceremony on February 26th, 2015, under a giant live oak tree, and we will celebrate with a barn reception. We can’t wait to start our life together as husband and wife!

I loved meeting Megan, a teacher, and her fiancée Hector to talk about their wedding at the Courtyard at Lake Lucerne. Megan and I talked dresses and shoes while Courtney and Hector talked bike racing. A perfect fit. I loved her handmade details, vintage feel and Tom’s wedding shoes. DJ: Randy Price
Coordinator: Events by Yram
Flowers: Jonathan’s Flowers
Cake: Costco
Wedding Dress: David’s Bridal
Shoes: Tom’s
Bridesmaid dresses: David’s Bridal
Menswear: Men’s Wearhouse
Describe your wedding day style in one sentence: Vintage elegance
Wedding day color scheme: Wisteria, ivory, and gray
Describe your wedding planning process – I started with the venue and that set the slightly vintage feel for the day. The dress came next, which was more formal than I had expected wanting, so that helped set the tone for the remaining details. The rest was mostly about finding the least expensive way to get what I wanted, since we were working with an extremely tight budget.
What advice would you give to future brides for their wedding day? Don’t be afraid to make decisions based on what YOU want. Don’t get talked into doing things because others say you just have to do this or have to have that. It can save you money and make the day a reflection of the two of you.
Anything you would have done differently? The caterer agreed to make a dish not on their menu. Even though the sample they made was very good, on the day-of, that dish was pretty bad. It’s probably best to stick with what your caterer does best.
Most memorable moment during the planning process: Putting on the dress that was the one!
What are you most looking forward to as a married couple? Finally getting settled into our house, and then leaving it to travel – someday.
Which moment are you the most excited to see in photos? Our first-look photos!
Describe some of your favorite wedding details and how you came up with them. The cake! Everyone commented that it by far the best wedding cake they had ever tasted. I was getting quotes of $1000 – $1500 we for something simple. Instead, we went with one of our favorite cakes – a round multi-layered chocolate masterpiece from Costco. We bought four, put three of them on cake stands of varying heights with some flowers on the table (one extra cake, just in case!), and it looked great! We had it served with fresh raspberries. The total cost for the cake and berries was less than $100. I also loved my shoes. I am not a frequent wearer of heels and I had a long staircase to descend, so I wanted a comfortable wedge. I discovered that Tom’s makes a shoe often used for weddings, in an ivory grosgrain. I love all of my regular Tom’s, so they were perfect!
